The parent who fled the Netherlands with her daughter was found by the Judiciary Police today, January 12th, in Azambuja. The child was handed over to his grandparents until his father came to Portugal. The decision to prevent the sharing of parental responsibilities led to the mother of the child under the age of six fleeing with her daughter to her country of origin after these measures were judicially imposed by the Dutch court.
“The Judicial Police, through the Directorate of the Center, in compliance with several home search warrants, located in the Azambuja area, a six-year-old child, brought to Portugal in late 2019 by the parent, with the purpose of preventing the compliance with the sharing of parental responsibilities, which were judicially fixed by a Dutch court. To achieve her intentions, the mother escaped with a child from the Netherlands to Portugal, where she remained partly uncertain, thus preventing her full social integration, namely access to education and socializing with the father and the rest of the family.
Following the steps taken, the mother was found accused and questioned by elements of the Judiciary Police and the child handed over to the Social Security Services of Leiria, who will intermediate his delivery to the family of the parent “, said the Judiciary Police, who made several searches in various places in an attempt to locate the child. After the diligence required by the authority, the mother incurred a crime of kidnapping minors, leading to the fact that, according to them, a first interrogation was held by members of this superior police force that supports the courts and the Public Ministry.
The act perpetrated by this female person led to the opening of a case in a juvenile court in Portugal. The couple lived in the Netherlands and separated, which caused her to flee with a daughter to national soil for not agreeing with the Dutch court’s decision. The case now goes to the Family and Minors Court of Alcobaça. The six-year-old is now with her paternal grandparents.
